Cold Mockingbird

I made a blog entry about photographing bluebirds in 20 degree weather on Sunday February 12th, 2012. While I was shooting the bluebirds that morning I also made a few photos of a Northern Mockingbird.

This bird was really puffing out his feathers. I suppose this is a method of staying warm.

I learned while reading the wikipedia page about the Northern Mockingbird that it is the Official State Bird of Tennessee. I probably knew that at one time but I had certainly forgotten.

I usually consider a Mockingbird to be a slender bird but with it’s feathers puffed out like this it looks very plump.

I used my new Sigma APO 150-500mm F5.6-6.3 DG OS Lens for these pictures as well as the Bluebird pictures and all the pictures of Mickey’s Birds that I made on February 9th, 2012. I’ve been very pleased with it so far.

Thanks for visiting my blog!
